Viagra Decreases Urination Problems

November 21, 2005 - Sexual Medicine Society of North America -

Impotence pill Viagra allows men not only improve the erectile function of the male penis, but also improve the urination in patients, suffering from lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).

Such announcement was made during the annual meeting of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America, which took place on November 21, 2005. Information was proved by the results of 12-week randomized study, led by Professor of urology Kevin V. McVary, with the participation of 300 men, having erectile dysfunction (ED) and suffering from LUTS.

As Mr. McVary said, Viagra allows killing two birds with one stone: it can treat erectile dysfunction in patients as well as significantly reduce the irritative and obstructive LUTS.

Lower urinary tract symptoms, known in medicine as LUTS, is a serious dysfunction of urination in approximately 30% of men aged over 50. This condition is often associated with the benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), though even men with a normal or even small size of a prostate can suffer from LUTS.

Actually, LUTS is a symptoms complex of two types, affecting the urination: voiding and storage. Voiding symptoms are usually caused by certain obstructions in the urinary tract. Such obstructions may appear as a result of prostate enlargement and cause painful urination, hesitation before urine flow starts, dribbling at the end of urination or leakage afterwards. Storage symptoms are usually called irritative symptoms, because they increase the frequency of urination, especially at night, urgency in urination and bladder pain. The research showed that about 70% of men with LUTS also suffer from Erectile Dysfunction. Consequently, treating ED with Viagra can help a large number of patients, suffering from urination problems.

Taking into account the fact that the actual cause of LUTS is still undefined, the results of the recent study made urologists suggest that ED and LUTS may have the same basic reason. As it is known, Viagra stimulates the nitric oxide system in human organism, increasing blood inflow to the penis blood vessels, resulting in erection. The malfunction of the same system may also be a cause for LUTS, as doctors suggest.

Scientists are sure that such newly revealed positive side of Viagra will undoubtedly be followed by other larger studies. So, perhaps, in the nearest future Viagra will get one more star on its shoulder strap as the effective remedy from LUTS.
