Viagra Brings Psychological Improvements

Treatment of erectile dysfunction with sildenafil (Viagra) improves not only physical health of men, but also their psychological condition. According to the results of the investigation, funded by the manufacturer of Viagra, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, ED oral pills significantly improves men’s self-confidence, self-esteem and general relationship satisfaction.

It is understandable, that men, who suffer from erectile dysfunction and cannot fulfill sexual functions properly, suffer psychologically as well. Anxiety, depression, decreased libido and self-esteem are among the conditions, accompanying the erectile dysfunction.

It is natural to suggest that sexual functions recovery may provide the recovery of men’s mental health as well. The article in the March issue of The Journal of Sexual Medicine gives the first investigation results, proving that suggestion with statistically valid data.

In order to define the psychological state of people, participating in the survey, the researchers used specialized questionnaire, focused on such issues as self-esteem level, confidence and overall sexual relationship satisfaction.

There were two groups of men in this survey: on one hand, there was a group of men with Erectile Dysfunction and on the other hand there was another group of men without ED history. These groups included 93 and 94 men consequently.

At the beginning of the study and before sildenafil treatment, men with ED had significantly less confidence, lower self-esteem and were much more unsatisfied with their sexual relationships in comparison to a group of men without erection problems.

After treating men, suffering from ED, with sildenafil, the participants of both groups were screened with the same questionnaire again. This screening showed that the men, treated with Viagra, were practically equivalent to the men with normal sexual function in terms of their confidence, self-esteem and satisfaction from sexual relationships.

As the result of the investigation, the researchers concluded that treating patients with sildenafil (Viagra) may lead to normalization of their important psychological issues, such as confidence, self-esteem and overall satisfaction.

One of the authors of the investigation, Dr. Stan Althof said: “This study adds to the growing body of literature regarding the importance of the psychosocial consequences of ED and the positive impact that effective treatment has on these salient issues. The restoration of sexual self-confidence is arguably the most important psychological variable in the successful treatment of ED.”

So, as we can see, male erectile dysfunction is not only a physical problem of men, but it is also a psychosocial problem, and Viagra is not only a medication to restore physical performance of male penis, but it is also a life-quality medication.
