Surface Logix Tests New Impotence PillNovember 30, - Surface Logix Inc. – Surface Logix Inc. starts the Phase 2a clinical trials of its new potent, selective, long-acting, oral PDE-5 inhibitor, called SLx-2101 – as it is reported in the official press-release, dated November 30, 2005. It is interesting to note, that the developers of SLx-2101 designed it as the universal remedy to treat several diseases, such as male erectile dysfunction (ED), pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and congestive heart failure (CHF). Such approach is based on the fact that SLx-2101 can treat endothelial dysfunction, which is considered to be the underlying cause of the said diseases. Endothelial dysfunction is a medical condition, when the endothelial cells, which form the inner surface of all blood vessels in human organism, do not carry out their biochemical functions properly. As the result, certain diseases, related to vascular system, may appear. Erectile dysfunction is one of them, since normal functioning of blood vessels is vitally important for erection process. Surface Logix used its proprietary small molecule, called Pharmacomer TM, and related technology to develop its SLx-2101 as the treatment of endothelial dysfunction. During the 2005 Fall Meeting of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA), which took place on November 17-20 in New York City, Surface Logix presented the results of Phase 1 trials of its new drugs against male impotence. Those results demonstrated SLx-2101 as a safe and well-tolerable pill, ensuring rapid onset of action as well as period of acting up to 36 hours. The further clinical studies will be carried out during Phase 2a trials, the commencement of which has already been announced by Surface Logix Inc. It is worthy to mention that SLx-2101 is not the only impotence pill, which is currently in the Phase of clinical tests and trials. There are several other medications, e.g. Avanafil from Vivus, which are planed to compete the existing ED oral pills Viagra, Levitra and Cialis in the nearest future. The participants of this year meeting of Sexual Medicine Society were presented with several reports on clinical trials of new drugs, developed by different companies that are looking forward to receive FDA approval for usage in ED treatment. Statistics says that up to 30- 50 % of the ED market is still uncovered with existing drugs. This fact as well as the certain pharmaceuticals companies’ efforts to enter this vast market with new, safer and more efficient drugs let us forecast that the range of available and approved ED medications will be expanded as soon as in late 2006 or early 2007.
