Cialis Demonstrates the Best Dynamics in Sales

November 3, 2005 - Lilly Icos LLC –

The worldwide sales volume of Cialis has increased 27% in the third quarter of year 2005 in comparison to the same period of year 2004. Such significant raise in sales ensured Lilly Icos, a joint venture company, marketing this erectile dysfunction (ED) pill, to receive the first quarterly profit in their history, as it is reported in the official press-release.

The results of year 2005 are undoubtedly very promising for Cialis and its manufacturers. Since the launch of Cialis worldwide marketing in 2003, Lilly Icos demonstrated financial losses. The situation has changed only in the third quarter of this year, when the company announced first quarterly profit of $19.8 million. In comparison to the same period of 2004, when company had net loss of $21.4 million, this is a real achievement for the company and for Cialis, as for the main product.

Earlier this year, Lilly Icos announced one more achievement in the company history – Cialis has passed 1 billion mark in the sale volume since its introduction to the market.

Obviously, it is due to the smart marketing policy of Cialis as a “weekend pill”, acting as long as 36 hours, that Cialis captured 31.7% of market in Europe, Canada and Mexico in 2005.

As it is known, there are three players on the market of oral medications against male impotence or erectile dysfunction. They are Viagra from Pfizer, Cialis from Lilly Icos and Levitra from Bayer.

Viagra was the first oral pill, introduced to the market in 1998, so during 5 years it was the only treatment option. As a result of such monopoly, Viagra now covers about 63 % of the market share in the USA. But with the introduction of Cialis and Levitra in 2003, Viagra received serious rivals. However, it continues to be the leader on the ED market.

It is an interesting fact, that Viagra, having the biggest volume of world sales, shows only 1% increase this year and even 4% decrease in the third quarter, while its rivals show increase in sales for 34% (Cialis) and 25% (Levitra). Such figures may manifest that Viagra has already reached its apogee on the market as a well-known and reliable remedy, while Levitra and Cialis are only starting to increase their popularity as new and promising alternatives.

Year 2006 undoubtedly brings new challenges to Viagra, Levitra and Cialis. In addition to the tough competition between these products, their manufacturer will not sleep well enough in the next year because several new drugs are currently being tested and may appear on the market at any time.

In the meantime, Pfizer plans to present new advertising projects in year 2006 to highlight the prospects of Viagra and to give a push to sales of this medication. At the same time, Lilly Icos hopes to use Cialis in the treatment of urinary symptoms in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP). The company has already announced the positive results of the Phase 2 studies in this direction.

So, all this figures and financial results give many prospects to patients, suffering from erectile dysfunction. Those, who have already tried Viagra, Cialis or Levitra, can be sure that they are on the right way and if there is no complete satisfaction with one pill, it is high time to try another one. For those men with impotence, who still go untreated, it is still higher time to use the available medications now and restore their sexual performance.
