Cialis Once-a-Day is ExpectedJune 7, 2006 - Lilly ICOS LLC – Once-a-day doses of Cialis (tadalafil) may soon become available in Europe and Nothern America. Lilly ICOS LLC, the developer of Cialis as the newest oral pills to treat erectile dysfunction, announced about the documents submission to the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) for marketing approval of Cialis Once-a-Day dosing. The company also informed about its plans to apply documents to the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) later in 2006. The approval of these legal authorities is necessary to make a medication as well as its new dosage available on the market. In case the company completes the process of approving successfully, new doses of Cialis may appear in Europe and the USA as soon as in late 2007. At the time being, Cialis is available in three doses: 5 mg, 10 mg and 20mg. The physicians prescribe certain doses for patients individually, taking into account the severity of erectile dysfunction and the overall health condition. Usually the starting dose of Cialis is 10 mg, which is taken on demand (mostly 30 minutes before the expected sexual contact). Cialis Once-a-Day is expected in two variants: 2.5 mg and 5 mg. The regimen of once a day administration of Cialis may significantly improve the life comfort of men with erectile dysfunction, supporting their sexual performance constantly and eliminating the necessity to adjust the sexual intercourse with the time of pill taking. Besides, once-a-day doses of Cialis are said to be less expensive than 10 mg and 20 mg tablets. Thus, the once-a-day regimen may become more attractive for patients from the financial point of view. Before applying for approval to governmental authorities, the company led a series of clinical studies to check the safety and efficiency of Cialis Once-a-Day dosing. The results of the studies showed that men, treated with Cialis 5 mg Once-a-Day, experienced significantly improved erectile function in comparison to those, treated with placebo pills. The most common side effects, occurred during the studies, were upset stomach and headache. The representatives of Lilly ICOS underlined the importance of strategic development of Cialis oral pills: “Introducing the once-a-day treatment for ED is part of our long range strategic plan for maximizing the value of the tadalafil molecule”. They also said that new once-a-day doses are addressed mostly to the men in their forties or fifties, who take PDE5 inhibitors more frequently than average. So, in case of once-a-day regimen approval, it will add one more positive argument for patients to evaluate while choosing among the available treatments of erectile dysfunction.
