Cialis Demonstrates the Highest EffectivenessFebruary 14, 2007 Among all the PDE-5 inhibitors Cialis demonstrates the highest effectiveness in fighting erectile dysfunction and providing sexual satisfaction. This finding was reported by UroToday referring to the publication in the European Urology journal. UroToday is the online service, created by a group of world-class urologists, with the aim to provide relevant and timely reviews of the issues related to male and female urology. The report is based on the results of a large erectile dysfunction observation study, conducted at 904 sites in nine European countries. The 6 months study was initiated in order to evaluate and compare the results of treating erectile dysfunction with available anti-impotence medications, namely tadalafil (Cialis), sildenafil citrate (Viagra), or vardenafil HCl (Levitra). 8047 patients with approximately the same profile (mean age 56 years, moderate or severe ED, mean score of erectile function about 13) were enrolled to participate in the study. At the beginning of the study 94% of all the participants (7560) chose either tadalafil (5315), sildenafil (1252), or vardenafil (993) as the primary treatment of the condition. Summarized and analyzed data, received during this study, showed that all the medications were effective in treating erectile dysfunction (40-58% of men reported improvements of their erectile function and the increased sexual satisfaction). At the same time, those patients, who received Cialis, reported “numerically higher levels of therapeutic effectiveness and satisfaction” in comparison to those, who took either sildenafil (Viagra) or vardenafil (Levitra). To be unbiased enough, it should be noted that the finding of the study cannot be defined as surprising, because Cialis has always been the #1 anti-impotence treatment in Europe, unlike the USA, where the leadership still belongs to Viagra. Besides, Eli Lilly Company, which produces Cialis, participated in the organization and conducting the above mentioned study. By the way, another important news concerning Cialis came on January 29, 2007. Eli Lilly and Company announced the completion of ICOS Corporation acquisition. Initially, Cialis was manufactured and distributed over the world by the joint venture, in which both Eli Lilly and ICOS had equal shares. However, at the end of 2006 the companies came to the agreement of ICOS acquisition by Eli Lilly and the process was successfully completed at the beginning of 2007. Now all the rights for Cialis belong to Eli Lilly exclusively and the company promises “to continue providing the benefits of Cialis to men suffering from erectile dysfunction”. Finally, it is interesting to note that while Cialis is on the way to strengthening its position on the USA market, Viagra has already became available without prescription in some of the pharmacies in the UK. If this pilot project by the Alliance Boots is successful, the OTC scheme of Viagra distribution is said to be used in other pharmacies in the UK. At the same time, web based sources have recently reported that Pfizer tries to get the FDA approval for OTC status for Viagra in the USA. However, these efforts of Pfizer are opposed by active position of AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which is unsatisfied with the recent ads campaign to promote Viagra. AHF blames Pfizer to promote the recreational use of Viagra, which may significantly contribute to the spreading of the sexually transmitted diseases.
